Position Announcement – Chairperson

Howard University College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences, one of 13 Colleges and Schools is an institution that values interdisciplinary research, education, and clinical practice, seeks a qualified candidate for a full-time tenure-track faculty position to serve as the Chairperson of the Department of Nutritional Sciences.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Nutrition required
  • Doctoral degree in Nutrition or Health-Related Field required by July 1, 2016
  • Post-Doctoral experience in Nutrition or Health-Related Field required by July 1, 2016
  • Experience teaching in higher education in Nutrition for a minimum of five (5) years
  • Established track record of research in Nutrition for a minimum of ten (10) years
  • Licensure as a Nutritionist or Registration as a Dietitian in the District of Columbia
  • Online education experience is a plus

Job Description: 

Faculty recruitment, development, and evaluation; program development, review, and evaluation; student advising and mentorship; departmental budgeting and budget control; class schedule planning; and general coordination of the research, teaching, and outreach activities of the department. The successful applicant is also expected to engage in research, publish in reputable academic journals, write grants, advise students and engage in public service at the university and in the local community.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership in developing and implementing operational action plans to meet the strategic goals and objectives of the University, College and Division
  • Maintain accreditation standards for the Division
  • Increase collaborations, linkages, and partnerships between community and other University departments
  • Implement an efficient advisement system by faculty to foster students’ retention and progression
  • Increase recruitment
  • Maintain current knowledge of laws, regulations, rules and policies governing education that are issued by local, Federal, and state accrediting agencies
  • Provide leadership for faculty in applying for extramural research funding
  • Design, review, and implement didactic course content
  • Student advisement and mentoring
  • Participate in scholarly/research activities, service to the profession, and professional practice
