Description
The Wiess School of Natural Sciences at Rice University seeks a tenured full professor to serve as Chair of the Department of Kinesiology during a period of growth in faculty and facilities. The Chair will lead development of the vision for the department, establish an independent and vigorous research program, and oversee the department’s education and research programs and administrative functions.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with experience or clear potential for leadership in higher education, including effective organizational and personnel management skills, and demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and the teaching and research missions of a research university. Creation of new graduate-level degree programs and expansion of partnerships with the Texas Medical Center, the Department of Athletics, and other academic departments at Rice University are expected. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Kinesiology or a related discipline, with demonstrated ability to establish a collaborative, nationally-recognized research program, with exercise physiology and human performance especially encouraged.
