The National Institutes of Health, in partnership with the Lasker Foundation, is pleased to announce the 2020 Lasker Clinical Research Scholars Program. This is an opportunity for 8 to 10 years of funding for clinical researchers.


This unique program provides Scholars with 5 to 7 years of support as an independent principal investigator in the NIH Intramural Research Program (IRP), followed by 3 years of continued financial support, either at the NIH or at an outside medical center/research institution.

 The College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, is currently accepting applications for a full time, post doc fellow position.

 This position will support the University’s mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff and all our activities.

Essential Function

Postdoctoral Fellows serve temporary appointments, and work under the supervision of a faculty mentor who is responsible for the Fellow’s fiscal and intellectual activities.  Appointments shall not exceed five (5) years; however, short extensions may be granted when necessary to complete a critical research project.

 

Primary Duties

  • Perform and conduct research required by faculty supervisor to a high standard and in accordance with all institutional and federal regulations
  • Expected to design and execute their own studies, analyze and write manuscripts related to their data, and prepare presentations for local, national, and international meetings
  • Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities
  • May support the development of proposals for research-related funding and grants
  • Engage in the dissemination of the results of the research as directed by and with the support of associated faculty members.
  • Communicate to project team progress and results of research activities ensuring that relevant information and issues in the implementation of projects/experiments are captured in as comprehensive and timely manner as possible
  • Play an active role in seeking career and research advice, both from the faculty supervisor and from other faculty members as well

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Ph.D. required, with training in immunology, microbiology, and/or molecular genetics
  • Requires at least 3 years of experience in microbial pathogenesis and/or immunology
  • Requires experience in handling and working with cell lines, and an ability to perform cell culture, real time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work and collaborate effectively with students, faculty and staff from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.

 

Ideal Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with organoids is desirable.
  • Preferred candidate should have the ability to analyze data on metal content of cells and metal flux.

Boston University T32 Training Program

MULTIDISCIPLINARY TRAINING FELLOWSHIP

(T32) IN CARDIOVASCULAR EPIDEMIOLOGY

The Boston University Section of Preventive Medicine and Epidemiology is seeking candidates for its T32 Training Program in Cardiovascular Epidemiology awarded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. Trainees will focus their training on the epidemiology of cardiovascular disease such as coronary heart disease, stroke, heart failure and other forms of vascular disease, following one of the training pathways: statistical genetics and genomics, computational biology and bioinformatics, or clinical epidemiology.

The successful candidate will participate in training activities including pathway-specific coursework and workshops, as well as individual professional development plan workshops, one-on-one professional counseling and career planning, grant writing workshops, research seminars, journal internships, and working on research projects with a Boston University senior investigator on longitudinal epidemiological studies such as Framingham Heart Study, Long Life Family Study and other cohort studies. All trainees will be supervised by their assigned faculty mentor as well as by the program’s co-directors for progress evaluation.

Training Program Start Date: April 1, 2021 or later

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Genetics/Genomics  or  related field   or   MD degree
  • Programming skills (SAS and/or R) preferred
  • US Citizenship or Permanent Residency (green card)

This position is a postdoctoral training opportunity paid a stipend, and the successful individual will be engaged in a 2-year period of mentored advanced training and professional development following completion of a doctoral degree program. BU is not able to offer traditional employee benefits to non-employee postdoctoral trainees.
