We are pleased to announce a Call for Proposals for the NHLBI BioData Catalyst Fellows Program. Please encourage researchers in your community to apply. The Call for Proposals can be found at https://biodatacatalyst.nhlbi.nih.gov/fellows/program.
The NHLBI BioData Catalyst Fellows Program provides early-career researchers (graduate students, postdocs, junior faculty, and others) the opportunity to receive funding to help support research on novel and innovative data science and data-focused research problems. The program is open to academic disciplines conducting biomedical research in heart, lung, blood, and sleep (HLBS) domains and may include focus on the impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in those domains.
The BioData Catalyst Fellows Program offers a mechanism for researchers to engage with the Consortium as partners in the BioData Catalyst endeavor. The BioData Catalyst Consortium seeks projects that represent diversity across fields of study, institutions, geography, and investigators.
The application process opens on October 16, 2020. The deadline to submit is December 4, 2020 11:59 PM Eastern Time. The Department of Psychology at California State University, Fullerton, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Black/African American Psychology with appointment to begin Fall 2021. Position
Candidates are expected to teach courses in psychology that may include, but are not limited to: Black Psychology, Psychology of Inequality, and other courses within their area of expertise. The faculty member will have the opportunity of serving as Affiliated Faculty in the Department of African American Studies (AFAM), with occasions to engage in cross-discipline conversations with the African American scholarly community and, if desired, to include in their teaching portfolio appropriate courses in the AFAM department. Candidates should also show potential for developing other courses relevant to the faculty member’s area of expertise within Black/African American Psychology. Additionally, candidates must conduct research that incorporates issues relevant to Black/African American psychology, such as the lived experiences of Black people in the United States, and demonstrate the ability to mentor and support both undergraduate and graduate students from diverse backgrounds. This position is for a psychologist with a strong emphasis in both teaching and research.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Psychology or a related field. ABDs may apply, but must show evidence that the degree will be completed by the appointment date
- Demonstrated experience and interest in topics related to Black/African American Psychology
- Excellent teaching at the college level.
- Ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of students
- Scholarship leading to or promising of publication and potential for external funding
- A commitment to developing a strong research program that involves undergraduate and graduate students
- Ability to balance excellent teaching, scholarship, and service
- Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population - The Psychology Department and CSUF have a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty, and strongly encourage applications from minority and underrepresented groups

Dr. Natasha Williams Receives Two-Year $2.2 Million Grant from NIH

Dr. Natasha Williams, CVD Cohort 1, from NYU Langone has received funding of a two-year $2.2 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics for Underserved Populations (RADx-UP) program to support community-engaged research to improve 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) testing for New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) residents.

Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University Health launch new pediatric sickle cell telehealth center

The Pediatric Comprehensive Sickle Cell Program at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University is opening a new Telehealth Center to better serve pediatric patients across Georgia.

CICADA Request for Pilot Research Proposals

CICADA, the Center for Improving Care Delivery for the Aging, is Penn’s NIA-funded Resource Center for Minority Aging Research (RCMAR). CICADA seeks to enhance the diversity of the aging research workforce by mentoring promising scientists from under- represented groups for sustained careers in aging research addressing social, behavioral, and economic questions, particularly issues that pertain to minority older adults. Those awarded 1- year pilots through this mechanism will become CICADA RCMAR Scientists and will receive additional career development support following the 1-year pilot period through CICADA.
Dr. Tiffany Carson Promoted to Associate Professor

Congratulations to Dr. Tiffany Carson, RISE Cohort 8, for being promoted to Associate Professor at UAB.
Dr. Carson has also accepted a position as an Associate Professor at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL effective January 2021. She will have the opportunity to build an obesity and energetics focused cancer prevention and control group.
