 Department of Kinesiology & Health Education at The University of Texas-Austin The University of Texas at Austin, Department of Kinesiology & Health Education is seeking applications from outstanding academic research scientists in Physical Activity and Public Health at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor, with an anticipated start date of August 2022. The Kinesiology and Health Education Faculty are highly interactive and maintain strong collaborations with multiple units across campus, regionally, nationally, and internationally. The Dell Medical School and the Austin Regional Campus of the University of Texas School of Public Health are just two of our key collaborators.

 The Department maintains unique core facilities that include the Health & Integrative Physiology Core Laboratory (HIP), Fitness Institute of Texas (FIT), and a 2,500 sq. ft. gymnasium for exercise manipulations/interventions.  Qualifications Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in kinesiology, public health, community health, exercise science, prevention science, or a closely related field. Appropriate research foci can include (but are not limited to): physical activity and health outcomes in human populations, individual determinants and interventions to increase physical activity, built environment and physical activity, and physical activity policy intervention/evaluation.

 Appointment as an Assistant Professor level are expected to have a demonstrated track record of publications reflecting a focused line of scholarly research and a record of external funding or the potential to obtain external funding. Post-doctoral training and/or independent research experience is strongly preferred. Appointment as an Associate Professor with tenure will require a significant publication record and a strong, on-going record of extramural funding. Candidates will also be expected to participate in the department's teaching mission with a strong commitment to mentoring with a focus on enhancing equity and inclusion in the field and in practice, with outstanding leadership, organizational and communication skills being essential.

The Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to study the role of genetic variation in response to environmental stressors in human health and disease. This research program will complement the Institute's basic, applied, and translational researchers and their mission to promote the health, and prevent disease and disability among working Oregonians and their families throughout their lifespan.

Function/Duties of Position

The successful candidate will lead an experimental research program that primarily leverages model organisms (e.g., population reference mouse, fly or worm recombinant inbred panels) to explore the role of genetic variation in disease; candidates that combine this strategy with analysis of human cohorts would be particularly attractive. Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Somatic (nuclear or mitochondrial) or germline genetic variation
  • Complex trait genetics of chronic disease (e.g., cardiometabolic disease)
  • Genetic determinants of intermediate phenotypes (e.g., chromatin structure, transcription, translation)
  • Next-generation sequencing/‘omics or high-throughput screening approaches to detecting novel roles of genetic variation in disease
  • Gene-environment interactions

Postdoctoral Research Associate Position - University of Illinois

Overview: The UIUC School of Social Work, invites applications for postdoctoral training in the context of an NIH-funded randomized trial testing virtual reality (VR) software to treat depressive symptoms in hemodialysis patients. The postdoctoral scholar will join Dr. Rosalba Hernandez’s lab which is focused on exploring the effects of positive psychological assets on cardiovascular health, particularly as it applies to racial/ethnic minority populations. In addition to hands-on training, by overseeing a large randomized trial, the position provides multidisciplinary training and mentorship for scholars to develop their research portfolio and train as a researcher and author of independently funded research.
